  • 22/2 is most commonly used for door sensors, window sensors, and 2-wire smokes. 
  • 22/4 wire is usually needed for keypads, motion sensors, expander modules, 4-wire smoke detectors, and glass break detectors. 
  • 18/2 is a little bit thicker wire often used for connecting your panel to the power transformer and can also be used for sirens.
